Join Us in Spreading Awareness and Kindness

Envisioning a world where ovarian cancer awareness and support reach every community.
Inspired by a mother’s strength, Geri’s Angels was developed from a place of love, loss and a deep desire to support others facing similar cancer journeys and to just do good. We exist to help find a cure for cancer and bring comfort, kindness and connection to women and families impacted by ovarian cancer and other chronic illnesses.

In 2012, our beloved matriarch, Gerlene Oliver, was unexpectedly diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After the initial shock of the diagnosis faded, Geri determined that instead of giving into despair, she wanted to do whatever she could to help others. After much consideration, Geri's Angels was born in 2017.
What Every Woman Should Know About Ovarian Cancer.
Ovarian cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the ovaries—the two small organs on either side of the uterus that produce eggs and female hormones such as estrogen and progesterone.
When these cells multiply and form tumors, they can spread to nearby organs or other parts of the body if not detected and treated early.
There are several types of ovarian cancer, depending on where the cancer begins. The most common type is epithelial ovarian cancer, which starts in the outer lining of the ovary. Other types include germ cell tumors, which begin in the egg-producing cells, and stromal tumors, which develop in the tissue that produces hormones.
Ovarian cancer is often called a “silent disease” because symptoms can be subtle in the early stages. When symptoms do occur, they may include persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating, and frequent urination. Because these symptoms can resemble common digestive or urinary issues, ovarian cancer is sometimes diagnosed at a later stage.

Diagnosing ovarian cancer usually involves several steps. Because the symptoms can be vague, doctors often use a combination of exams, imaging tests, and laboratory tests to determine whether cancer may be present.
Pelvic Examination
A healthcare provider may begin with a pelvic exam to check the ovaries and nearby organs for unusual swelling, masses, or tenderness.
Imaging Tests
Doctors often use imaging tests to view the ovaries and surrounding tissues. These may include ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI scans, which help identify tumors or abnormal growths.
Blood Tests
Blood tests may be used to look for substances called tumor markers. One commonly used marker is CA-125, a protein that may be elevated in some people with ovarian cancer. However, this test alone cannot diagnose the disease.
Biopsy or Surgery
The only way to confirm ovarian cancer is by examining tissue from the ovary. This typically occurs during surgery, when a doctor removes a sample of tissue or the tumor itself and sends it to a laboratory for analysis.
Once ovarian cancer is confirmed, doctors determine the stage of the cancer, which describes how far it has spread. Staging helps guide treatment decisions and determine the most effective care plan.
Awareness also plays an important role in:
Encouraging conversations about women’s health.
Open discussions about symptoms, family history, and routine medical care can help women make informed decisions about their health.
Promoting research and better treatments.
Public awareness supports funding for scientific research that aims to improve screening methods, treatments, and ultimately find a cure.
Supporting patients and families.
Awareness helps build communities of support for those affected by ovarian cancer, reminding patients and their loved ones that they are not alone in their journey.
By learning about ovarian cancer and sharing information with others, we can help save lives, support research, and bring hope to individuals and families facing this disease.
Common symptoms may include:
✔ Persistent bloating or swelling of the abdomen
✔ Pelvic or abdominal pain
✔ Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
✔ Frequent or urgent need to urinate
✔ Unexplained fatigue
✔ Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation
✔ Back pain
✔ Unexplained weight loss or weight gain, particularly in the abdomen
If these symptoms occur more than 12 times in a month or represent a noticeable change from your normal health patterns, medical evaluation is recommended.

Light a candle to honor a loved one, celebrate a survivor or remember someone lost to ovarian cancer fighter or survivor.
Every light tells a story of courage, love and remembrance.
